Small business owners need to monitor whether their investment in a website is providing a good return. Are your products and services easy to buy? If they aren't, you are wasting time and money and probably doing more harm than good.
Content is King! If you want a website to generate back-links and have quality content the search engines love, be sure to make it readable by both people and search engines. Search engines are working to give people quality results. Thus, they are looking for sites with quality content. So - by building site content for people, not only are you getting back to basics (information dissemination to people via the Internet), you are creating a site search engines will love. So, build sites for people - and the search engines will come.

When creating a new website or redesigning an existing site, there are four critical rules which should be followed to make the site effective, functional, loved by search engines - and successful.
Did you know that in the world today there are more than 5.9 billion mobile phone users, and a thousand more are added every minute!

About 20% of these mobile phone owners (more than 1.2 billion and growing) have browsed the Internet through their mobile phones. This is the reason why mobile Web browsing is predicted to become the next predominant Internet platform.

Many consumer-driven companies have already seen how promising the mobile platform is and have already equipped themselves with a mobile web site. A mobile web site today is not simply a passing fad. It is predicted that in the future mobile sites will prove to be a necessity, even the new Internet standard. Right now, there are millions of WAP mobile users browsing the Internet. But, there is an unfortunate disparity when it comes to the number of consumer-focused mobile Web sites that actually load properly on mobile devices.
Web site design is the process of designing a template or web site on the internet. This is used for many different types of web sites. Each web site design is unique and individual to the particular site in question. The site designer will begin by asking you some basic questions about the site and based on the answers, will begin to build a site for you and your particular product or service. All designs will be passed to you for approval and any changes asked for will be made into the site.
American English grammar is fraught with peril, filled with constructions, conventions, and exceptions seemingly designed to trip you up. Is it who or whom, further or farther, lie or lay? Should you use which or that, however or while, i.e. or e.g.? And let's not forget about more intimidating mistakes, the ones that sound like Spanish Inquisition-era torture devices (split infinitive, comma splice) or gross bodily functions (dangling participle, double copula).
Just when you thought the world of internet advertising could not be any more confusing, someone tosses out the term, viral marketing. This sure does sound like something your doctor should give you an injection to protect you from. I mean viral usually means infection, and illness, like the flu bug right? On the World Wide Web, viral has been used to describe computer viruses or the viral bugs that sabotage files or computer systems. Nevertheless, when it comes to internet marketing, viral is considered an infectious bug in a good way, not a harmful one.
This is something we,ve done practically our whole lives. Whether it's when we introduced friends to family, at a lunch or dinner party, or even when it comes to matchmaking. It may even be if you,re meeting someone to make a job connection. Social networking can also be used if you,re a salesperson meeting with people and trying to make a sale.
A Web presence is critical for almost every nonprofit, but creating a Web site can be daunting. It can take a lot of time, money, and technical expertise—things that are often in short supply. And just because you have a Web site up and running doesn’t mean your work is done. You still need to keep up with maintenance, updates, and desirable new features.

An open source Content Management System (CMS) can help. Generally speaking, a CMS is a software package that lets you build a Web site that can be quickly and easily updated by your non-technical staff members. These open source systems are created and supported by a community of developers, and can be downloaded without cost. Both their feature sets and their price tags make open source systems particularly attractive to nonprofits.
Email promoting is definitely a fairly easy, productive, and an inexpensive method for modern corporations to get in touch with their customers and also grow their particular incomes. For example, some sort of newsletter enables you to cultivate awareness in your organization and at the same time showing your own experience and depth, your greatest resources for your own business. Distributing some sort of email newsletter keeps your company within the thoughts of one’s growing network. Plus, good email newsletters are usually sent to friends of the actual receiver of the email, thereby developing your network even further.
Learn the facts before you install analytics tools
By: Elliot Harmon

Your website is a place where people – potential supporters, volunteers, and beneficiaries learn about your organization, but it’s also a place where you learn about them. Using various web statistics and analytics tools, you can learn how people are finding your website, where visitors are located geographically, and what parts of your site they’re visiting. You can judge the impact of a particular fundraising letter or ad campaign by finding out how many times the message resulted in an online donation, a newsletter signup, or any other desired action. Used thoughtfully, website statistics can inform website design choices, help you make your website more user-friendly and navigable, and influence your overall communications and marketing strategy.
But is your visitors’ information being used by others? What responsibility do you have to explain to your site’s users what information they’re giving away by visiting your site and to whom? In this article, we’ll explore some privacy issues surrounding web analytics and other website tools. Since Google Analytics (GA) is the most prominent third-party analytics tool on the market, we’ll pay particular attention to it, but the recommendations we offer apply to other third-party services too.

We’ll offer some tips on crafting a privacy policy that explains to your site’s users how you and others will use any information they provide. Having a clear, readable privacy policy is a great idea even if you don’t use GA or a similar service. We can’t decide for you whether to use a third-party web analytics service, but we can help you make a thoughtful decision and take necessary steps to educate your website’s visitors.
Indispensable tools your nonprofit should know about
Print Was This Helpful

Editor's note: This article was compiled with the help of Michael Janofsky using information from the Web 2.0 online event, held from October 24 to 28, 2005, in TechSoup's Emerging Technologies forum. Additional content provided by Ruby Sinreich.
Web developers, designers, bloggers, and even major media outlets have been abuzz with talk of "Web 2.0" this year. Though the term bears the familiar version number so often attached to software products, it doesn't actually refer to any one technology. Rather, Web 2.0 is the moniker for an emerging set of Internet-based tools and an emerging philosophy on how to use them.
By now you've heard the term "Web 2.0"... but what does it mean and why is it important for all marketers? Here's a quick explanation and my thoughts on the importance of the Web 2.0 movement.

"Web 2.0" is a weird phrase. It began as the name of a conference, but the people organizing the conference didn't really know what they meant by it. Mostly they thought it sounded catchy. However, "Web 2.0" has since taken on a meaning. There are some interesting new trends on the Web, and it's the nature of a phrase like that to adhere to them.
