There are several web sites that offer reciprocal link or exchange link services. They are called LinkMetro, Gotlinks, LinkManager, Simplylinking, etc. In most cases you have to fill in the title, the description, the url and the page where you put the returning link. After that and some money you can exchange with other members. The problem with this way of linking is that these services don't interchange with each other because there is no such thing as a standard. What will happen is tjat in the long run you still are filling web forms and make their links on your site. Because I am a lazy person I was thinking of making easier way.
Let's make a XML standard together and give it the name linkmap.xml. Yes I know it sounds like sitemap.xml from Google. Every Webmaster can put such a linkmap.xml on his site or in a map on his site. The linkmap contains all the information like the url, the title, the description, the reciprocal link and the categories in a standard format. Now every linking partner can reach this data and download it for his on use.
What we need is the following stuff:
1. People who thing about the standard, let's call them the Linking Standard Committee.
2. Somebody that makes a linkmap.xml generator that may run on WebmastersLookup.
3. Tools that read the linkmap.xml from websites. There are 2 solutions.
a. Read the complete linkmap and store it in a database for link page generation use.
b. Only put the link to the linkmap.xml in a database so the owner can keep his link up to date on his own site.
Generating link pages form this solution can be tricky of course because you never know if you
can reach the linkmap.xml.
4. Ask the link exchange services to join to give body to the standard.
5. WebmastersLookups Blog can be used to communicate.
Please comment anyone. I don't know if anything like this exists or if it will work, let me know.
